The Neuromuscular Immunopathology Research Laboratory (NIRL) is a translational basic science research laboratory dedicated to understanding the pathogenesis of immune-mediated disorders of the peripheral nervous system, with specific emphasis on peripheral neuroinflammation, and the biology of blood-nerve barrier in health and disease, including chronic neuropathic pain. The NIRL uses cells and tissues from normal individuals and patients with peripheral nervous system disorders and their representative animal models to identify and better understand physiologically relevant signaling molecules and pathways. The ultimate goal is to discover and develop effective therapeutics for immune-mediated peripheral nervous system disorders and chronic neuropathic pain.
