Her lab focuses on the development and assessment of competency in surgical trainees, resident supervision and autonomy, and evaluation of the learning climate/physician wellbeing as an academic surgeon, including disruptive behavior.

Investigation Topics

  • Attempting to understand whether intrinsic characteristics such as emotional intelligence, resilience, and mindfulness or extrinsic experiences in the work environment wield greater influence on resident physicians’ risk of burnout.
  • Defining aspects of work that are meaningful to healthcare professionals across the spectrum of education and training.
  • Determining whether global ratings of procedures give similar information for ratings of each step of a procedure.
  • Examining the utility of Entrustable Professional Activities as a framework for assessment in general surgery training.
